Hi, folks!
This is my very first posting of 2010 but many more will follow - I can assure you of that!
According to the United Nations Observances, 2010-2020 will be the International Decade for Deserts and the Fight against Desertification whereas 2010 alone is the International Year of Youth: Dialogue and Mutual Understanding; International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures and International Year of Biodiversity.
Though still in the first days of a New Year and of a new decade (?), in 2010 we have already celebrated World Day of Peace on 1st January and this year's message sent by Pope Benedict XVI was "If you want to cultivate Peace, protect Creation".
At Martinho Árias we also decided to mark the beginning of a new year with a lunch - on the one hand, to meet some of the teachers who belong to our school but are never there...and on the other hand, to celebrate Andy's return.
So... we had a nice vegetarian lunch, strolled a bit along Mondego's green park and then sat to drink coffee.
It was a very pleasant day - sunny but cold - and the group was fantastic.
When and where is the next meeting point ???

The objectives are very ambitious but necessary!I'm not so sure we'll be able to achieve them.... Neverthless, let's hope for the best!!!
Thank you for your wishes. The same to you.
Thank you, dear Sonia!
Ya, let's hope for the best...The Haitians started the new year the worst possible way... I have no words to describe how disturbed this has made me feel ;(
Anyway, let's try to cheer up a bit and , yes, have a nice stay in London - that's what I consider a good start :)
happy new year, Alex!

happy new year 2010!!

A very happy New Year to all of you!
Unfortunately, the situation in Haiti is terrible, but what better way to prove that we can join efforts to cultivate peace and understanding? It's up to all of us, now, to help those in need.
On a lighter note: kudos for your eco-friendly afternoon near the Mondego!
