YES! You definitely want to see this. The two-hour concert film is unmissable, believe me!
"THIS IS IT" is a tribute to Michael Jackson's extraordinary life and career, featuring rare behind-the-scenes footage of his last rehearsals as he prepared for his sold-out concerts that would have taken place in Summer in London's O2 Arena. It captures the singer, dancer, filmmaker,.. all his creative genius at work; but "This is it" also gives us a glimpse of a more human Michael Jackson than the King of Pop ever presented in his lifetime.
I've already said before that MJ wasn't really one of my favourite singers but I can't hide that my opinion has changed and now he has one more fan: myself.
What about you, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls who went to see "This is it"? Ya, tell me: on Tuesday afternoon a group of sixteen ladies (ANSC 2) and three teachers went to Forum; on Wednesday evening a group of 50 (yeessss, 50!) met in CC Dolce Vita, had dinner and coffee, celebrated Fátima's birthday and then, finally, went inside for the film.
Have a look at some pictures, please!
Worldwide there have been several tributes to Michael Jackson.
Have you ever heard about "Flashmobs"? Do you know what a flashmob is?
According to Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary (7th edition), a flashmob is a large group of people who arrange to gather together in a public place at exactly the same time, spend a short time doing something there and then quickly all leave at the same time.
To have an idea, click on the following link to see a tribute organised by a Swedish group called "Bounce" that challenged other countries to do the same:

Now with children in Canada:

or Lisbon:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PS50ATSrquw
among many others (Hong Kong, New York, London, Paris,...)
If you are curious about this, browse a little bit but in wikipedia (try
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flashmob ) you'll surely find what you need to know about this social performance art.
Coming back to the film, in "THIS IS IT" you see Michael Jackson totally in command of his body and voice though very thin and sometimes wearing strange clothes. Indeed, the editing gives us MJ performing the same number on different days in different clothes which undoubtedly leads us to the question: was he really fit? We know he was rehearsing, the footage was edited, but... would MJ manage a whole concert? What about 50????
After some googling I found http://this-is-not-it.com/ in which a group of fans demands to know the truth, assures that the film hides a terrible reality and calls our attention to some facts. Visit it! It's quite interesting!!
Anyway, from what some of you have already told me, it was worth going to the cinema and seeing this concert film. And as for Michael Jackson, all this only enhances my admiration for him and for what he had dreamed for his fans. "THIS IS IT" would definitely be the greatest of all concerts!

About Me
- Teacher Alex
- Portugal
- I am from Coimbra, Portugal, and am currently teaching in a school in Soure, about 30 km away from Coimbra. I have been a teacher of English for over 20 years and have already taught different levels and age groups. After all this time I can say I love working with adult groups because there are no coursebooks and I can create my own resources. I am an avid reader, a blogger and very curious about free tools and their implementation in the classroom.

I must say I've never been much of a fan, maybe because the peak of his career was in the 80's and in general those were "musical dark ages" for me... :)
But like it or not, one has to admit the man was a genious and has been part of musical history for a long time (and not only now that he's dead...). And let's face it, everybody knows his songs and can't help but dancing when they're on!
Anyway, loved seeing the photos, you all seemed to be having lots of fun!
Love,
Lena.
Hello teacher, I loved the movie and have to repeat with another movie. Pedro ADM

Hi, everybody!
On Tuesday I saw “This is it” with my class ANI2. I really liked it and hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. It is a beautiful tribute to Michael Jackson! A would recommend the film to everybody, especially to all those who have a distorted idea of MJ.
As for the pictures, I liked to see the nice (and familiar) faces of the people attending the “night shift” courses – one cannot ignore teacher Claudia’s presence… always so cute!

Micheal Jackson, was, no doubt, an incredbly good dancer and he left us unforgettable music. I haven't seen the film yet, but my children were enthusiastic about it and now my son always practises dancing at home(in front of a big mirror!!)trying hard to imitate M. Jackson and my daughter has become on of his biggest fan.
After his death, the king of the pop's popularity has been enormously increasing.Even many young people to whom, he was unknown, now appreciate the King of the pop and buys his Cds.
Thank you for the links, Alexandra, they are very interesting
Well, from what I've been reading our opinions are not much different: we all agree he was really good - that's why he has long been known as "King of Pop"- and "This is it" also restores his reputation as the greatest entertainer. Like it or not (quoting Helena) he was one of a kind and was preparing a comeback concert that unfortunately never came...
Teacher Alex
the video is really cute!! Thank you for having provided this activity that I love.
goodbye teacher!
big kiss

At first I didn't like Michael Jackson but my opinion changed after going to the cinema and seeing "This is it". I loved the film, his messages, his relationship with his team, his commitment, his professionalism,...

Well, I must confess, I wouldn't have gone to the movies for this film but I left the cinema room wanting to find a good Michael Jackson's CD and buy it...
Although I grew up listening to his music I cannot say I am a real fan but I think the music world lost a genius and a gifted performer.
He was a perfectionist, a humble soul but, in the end, just... a kid!
hello!
I grew up listening MJ's music.
I just want to say that i loved it! X2 (I saw it twice).
Can we repeat?
Thanks
maria manuel aniII
